Overview

Phoenix builds Pyre with Combustion attacks, then spends it on Purifying Flame. Her Sear effect lets the squad's Anomaly damage critically hit, giving her a team role beyond applying Burn.

Role

Fire Anomaly driver with squad Anomaly support and a self-recovery mechanic.

Playstyle

Reach the third and fourth Basic hits, use Specials to return to that part of the string, and spend Pyre on the held Basic finisher. Fit the EX sequence between those attacks, then make room for partners to apply their Anomalies and use their resources.

Why It Works

Sear turns repeated Anomaly damage into potential critical hits. Purifying Flame and the Ultimate follow-up add Abloom against an already afflicted enemy, so keeping an Anomaly on the target matters as much as filling Phoenix's own gauge.

Watch For

Sear's critical hits apply to Anomaly damage, not regular or Polarity Disorder. Bring another Anomaly Agent or a Krampus teammate for her Additional Ability. A team built chiefly around Disorder does not gain the same benefit as one using Vortex or other Anomaly damage.

Playstyle

Combat Flow

Set up the team's buffs and Anomaly → Basic 3–4 / Combustion → Dazzling Flare → Falling Sun → Blazing Slash as resources allow → 90 Pyre: hold Basic → Refresh partners and repeat

Key Notes

  • Keep the Basic loop moving. After a Combustion attack, Fire Sweep skips its retreat. A Perfect Block lets you resume at Basic 3; otherwise, press Basic for Meltdown and continue into Basic 3–4. Dodge Counter, Quick Assist and Assist Follow-Up also provide shortcuts.

  • Use Energy deliberately. Dazzling Flare enables Falling Sun while Wither and Bloom is active. Falling Sun grants one Ascension; Blazing Slash spends that point instead of Energy. Use the free follow-up before trying to build another point, because only one can be held.

  • Spend Pyre before wasting buildup. The gauge holds 120, while Purifying Flame costs 90. Hold Basic once the finisher is available and the enemy has an Anomaly to support its Abloom. A Perfect Block grants five extra Pyre only once every ten seconds.

  • Sear lasts 20 seconds and squad Anomaly damage refreshes it. At Core F, its separate critical hit has 25% CRIT DMG, with another 15% from the Additional Ability. Initial Anomaly Mastery above 155 raises its CRIT chance, up to the 255 threshold. Ordinary CRIT equipment is not a substitute.

  • Finish the Ultimate. Perpetual Resurrection consumes her HP and enters Wither; press Basic for Soul-Searching Blaze, or return to Phoenix through a normal switch or Assist. The follow-up restores the consumed HP plus 10% of Max HP and can trigger Abloom. Wither is different from the EX sequence's Wither and Bloom state.

  • Rebirth is a safety net, not a reason to ignore attacks. After fatal damage, a normal switch-in, Quick Assist or Defensive Assist restores 50% of her Max HP. Investigation Zone Mode explicitly limits this effect to once every 1,200 seconds. Her damage reduction and block windows do not make every action invulnerable.

  • Invest in level and Core first for the Anomaly build and Sear's support. Basic and Chain/Ultimate levels improve the two Abloom finishers; upgrade those before spending scarce materials across every family. Special, Assist and Dodge still improve their own attacks, but they do not replace Core's Anomaly scaling.

  • Start with Phoenix and Velina plus Remielle for the three-Anomaly setup, or use Yuzuha as the support alternative. Lucy can fill an ATK-buffer slot when those options are unavailable. Keep the second Anomaly Agent: neither Yuzuha nor Lucy alone activates Phoenix's Additional Ability. These are kit-based pairings, not observed team rankings.

Best W-Engines

Signature · S

Plume of Rebirth

Anomaly Mastery supports Sear's CRIT chance, while its Anomaly Proficiency and Fire bonus strengthen her own damage. The Fire bonus needs an Anomaly critical hit to activate.

Mastery alternative · S

Angel in the Shell

Its Mastery stat and unconditional Anomaly Proficiency remain useful. Phoenix is Fire, so she cannot activate the Ether-only damage bonuses.

Craftable alternative · A

Weeping Gemini

Squad Anomalies build Anomaly Proficiency stacks. Stun recovery or defeating the target clears them, and the engine supplies no Mastery for Sear.

Best Drive Disc Sets

Fire buildup · 4-piece

Freedom Blues

EX hits reduce Fire Anomaly Buildup RES, helping Phoenix apply Burn more frequently. Sear's periodic hit counts as EX damage; keep Sear active to maintain that contribution.

Swap-focused alternative · 4-piece

Chaos Jazz

Provides Fire damage and an EX bonus that persists briefly after returning to the field. Use her EX sequence within that window; prolonged field time loses the temporary bonus.

2-piece Pairings

Fire buildup · 2-piece

Phaethon's Melody

Pair with 4-piece Freedom Blues or Chaos Jazz.

Disc 6

  • Anomaly Mastery

Sear reaches its maximum CRIT chance at 255 initial Anomaly Mastery. Disc 6, the 2-piece Mastery bonus and a Mastery W-Engine support that target. Without the engine, retain a useful Anomaly build rather than chasing ordinary CRIT stats: those do not replace Sear's separate scaling. Disc 5 alternatives depend on equipment and team buffs.
