Spoiler notice. Location and system unlocks: Kichijoji and billiards upgrades. No plot outcomes are included.
Objective: Technical rank 4
Billiards raises the party’s Technical rank in Royal. At rank 4, an eligible Technical hit guarantees a knockdown. This is separate from the individual Baton Pass ranks raised through darts. A target still has to receive the correct ailment-and-attack combination.
This is an upgrade sequence, not a calendar route. Its visits can be spread around other goals. It requires access to Kichijoji, sufficient Proficiency and the relevant purchases and reading.
Start at Penguin Sniper
Play billiards at Penguin Sniper in Kichijoji to begin the progression. Follow the advice about improving your play, then visit the sports shop in Shibuya’s Underground Mall for Expert Billiards. Read the book rather than merely leaving it in your inventory.
Prepare the next gate before spending another visit. Billiards can remain a useful activity even without a Technical rank-up, but repeating it alone does not bypass missing equipment, reading or Proficiency.
Complete the upgrade gates in order
Return to play after meeting each row’s conditions. The names below use the English Royal items: Expert Billiards and Jump Cue, rather than older translated names found in some references.
Scroll horizontally to see all columns.
| Target | Prepare before the next billiards visit |
|---|---|
| Rank 2 | Proficiency 2; buy and read Expert Billiards |
| Rank 3 | Proficiency 3; buy the Jump Cue |
| Rank 4 | Proficiency 5; read Billiards Magician, received after reaching rank 3 |
Check the result before planning combat around it
Confirm the upgraded Technical rank in the game after the visit. If it has not advanced, check the current rank, Proficiency requirement, book completion and equipment in that order. Do not mistake a Social Stat gain for the Technical upgrade itself.
Once rank 4 is established, build a plan around an ailment your target can actually receive and a compatible follow-up attack. The Technical guide covers baseline pairings. Knowing the Heart expands the combination list separately; it is not another billiards rank.
