Confidant Fundamentals

Separate affinity, rank gates, automatic progression and task-based requests.

Affinity is not the same as rank

For affinity-based Confidants, conversation choices and time together build the points needed for a later rank event. Carrying a Persona of the matching Arcana can improve affinity gains. It does not replace a story gate, Social Stat requirement or mandatory request.

Check the game’s indication that a bond is ready to deepen before spending a time slot. A meeting can be useful without immediately raising the rank, but that is a different use of your calendar than a confirmed rank-up.

Identify the progression type

Some Confidants progress automatically with the story. Strength advances through Persona-and-skill assignments instead of ordinary hangouts. Others can pause until you complete a Mementos request. The native Confidant pages identify these different requirements.

Do not apply dialogue-point advice to every relationship. Repeating a high-affinity answer cannot bypass a task-based rank. When progression stalls, inspect the next gate before spending another afternoon trying the same approach.

Choose priorities around your save

Combat abilities, fusion benefits and daily-life conveniences are different rewards. Prioritize the ones that solve your current bottleneck, then reserve time for relationships with a real cutoff. The calendar guide explains why an available weekday is not a guaranteed meeting.

Romance is optional and is not required to complete every eligible Confidant. Use the friendship and romance branches on the existing reference pages deliberately. Royal’s third-semester access has its own relationship gate, covered separately with a progression-spoiler notice.
