Start with a fresh knockdown
A weakness hit against a standing enemy can produce One More. Baton Pass hands that opportunity to an eligible teammate, even if their normal turn has already happened. Royal gives new party members access to Baton Pass without requiring the original game’s individual Confidant unlock.
Look at the whole enemy group before attacking. If two different elements are needed, give the next action to someone who covers a remaining target. Clearing every weak enemy with the first multi-target spell can remove the standing targets you needed to build a chain.
Build the chain around the final action
A chain cannot keep cycling through the same teammates. Each successive pass strengthens the recipient; the final recipient in a full four-person chain can use skills without their usual HP or SP cost for that pass. Plan who should deliver that action before starting.
A pass does not have to become another attack. A badly hurt recipient may need to heal. Likewise, a target with no useful weakness may be better handled through an ailment and Technical than by forcing an ineffective elemental spell.
Use darts to improve the recipient’s rank
Darts in Kichijoji improves individual Baton Pass ranks. These are separate from the party-wide Technical rank raised through billiards. Higher Baton Pass ranks improve the benefits a character receives when the action reaches them.
Prioritize the teammates you actually use. That is an editorial planning suggestion, not a required calendar route. You can still build effective pass chains before everyone reaches their highest rank.
