Character Progression & Constellations

Distinguish Character levels, ascension, talent upgrades and Constellations before planning materials.

Levels and ascension do different jobs

Character levels increase the level-dependent base stats. Ascension raises the level cap and can unlock passive talents or further talent upgrade eligibility. A stat table may show two rows at the same level because they represent opposite sides of an ascension.

Kaeya’s ascension stat is Energy Recharge. His progression table also records HP, ATK and DEF. Raising a Character’s level does not independently level their equipped weapon or artifacts.

Invest in the abilities you use

Normal Attack, Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst have separate talent levels. Inspect the relevant talent table to see what changes. A level increase can improve a coefficient without changing a cooldown or a condition.

An off-field build may rarely use Normal Attacks, while a Charged-Attack build can rely heavily on the Normal Attack talent. Follow the chosen play pattern rather than upgrading all three automatically. Ascension passives should be read as separate effects.

Constellations change specific rules

Constellations can add talent levels, change an ability or introduce a conditional effect. They are not a uniform percentage improvement. Compare the exact wording with the role you intend to play.

Kaeya’s C1 affects Normal and Charged Attack CRIT Rate against Cryo-affected opponents. His C3 raises Frostgnaw’s talent level. These are different kinds of investment, and neither should be described as an identical benefit to every part of his kit.

A guide discussing a Constellation is explaining an existing effect, not recommending that you spend Wishes to obtain it. No purchase value or DPS breakpoint is established here.

Plan from current levels to intended levels

The Materials Planner uses admitted Character, weapon and talent costs. Select the actual starting and target levels rather than treating the maximum total as the amount you still need.

Check the current Kit and progression plan before spending materials. This guide does not assume that every Character needs maximum level, every talent needs a crown, or every listed Constellation is necessary.
